Keeping Boys Active
Physical activity is key to the programming at Natchez Trace Youth Academy. Our serene wilderness setting in Waverly, Tennessee, allows Natchez Trace Youth Academy to offer exhilarating recreational options for our students to stabilizing behavior, regain psychological health and security, and blaze their own trails for success. Recreation therapy and exercise is key to our Positive Peer Culture (PPC) model, where students encourage and motivate each other to try new experiences and expand their horizons.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Our campus has an Alpine Climbing Tower, a collaborative climbing tower that we use to help students focus on team building, communication skills and building of self-confidence. Students participate in these activities as “challenge by choice,” encouraging each other take another step beyond what they may believe they’re capable of achieving.
We also have canoes that can be utilized for other therapeutic outdoor activities. These activities are offered on a volunteer basis as an enhancement to the therapeutic process for each student’s individual needs. Students can also earn recreational outings that include outdoor activities, like swimming and climbing. To view our campus, click here.
ATHLETIC TEAMS
Natchez Trace is a member of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) which oversees and administers junior and senior high school sporting events in Tennessee. Natchez Trace has TSSAA basketball and track teams, and we have the proper gym and training facilities to support the development of those competitive teams. We also participate in Amateur Athletics Union basketball events, providing opportunities for other students. To read through our Student Code of Conduct for Athletics, click here.
